Preparing For The Arrival Of Your Baby Boy
Many baby items can work for both baby girls and baby boys, but there are a lot of things that are made especially for boys as well. Although sometimes the only difference is color, if you know that you are having a boy, you can purchase baby items intended especially for boys. This will help keep the nursery from being just a baby area and make it more like a little boy's room.
A baby crib is often the first thing new parents buy for their new baby. It might seem like a good idea to go with a generic color like white or natural wood in case you have another child, but remember that many cribs can now be changed into toddler beds once the child is old enough. That means the first bed your little boy uses as a toddler will be the same color as his crib was. For that reason, a bright color such as dark blue, red or green makes a good choice.
You'll want to get some baby boy bedding to match the new crib. It should be pretty simple to find matching bedding, regardless of what color the crib is. Bedding with cars, trucks, firemen or superheroes can be enjoyed both when your baby is tiny and once he is old enough to start playing with those types of toys.
Rubber ducks are great baby bath toys for baby boys, and so are toy boats and other items that float. You will want to have a nice variety for your little boy to play with. This will help make bath time fun. Little boys especially love playing with boats in the water.
Don't forget to finish off the crib with a brightly colored mobile. You can try to find one with cars and trucks or just go with any mobile that has bright colors to match your crib. The baby will outgrow the mobile before he gets too interested in much of anything besides his bottle so it doesn't really matter what is on it.
When you purchase baby clothes for your little boy, you might want to go easy on the blue. You will probably get a lot as gifts, and you don't want your little boy's wardrobe to be all blue. Baby boy clothes come in a wide variety of colors - pretty much anything except pink and purple - so mix it up a little by buying clothes in red, green or brown.
Finish off the pre-baby shopping by purchasing paint for the nursery. You'll want to pick a color that goes nicely with the crib and other items without overwhelming the room. Sky blue, yellow and light green make nice choices for a baby boy's walls. Once you have the room painted, you can sit back, relax and wait for the baby to arrive.
